Abstract

Sitnikova Valentina Panteleevna is a magnificent woman, an excellent pediatrician, a talented nephrologist, an honorary professor and simply a favorite teacher of more than one generation of doctors!

Sitnikova Valentina Panteleevna was born on October 22, 1929 in the Bryansk region. She was a little over ten years old when she was left without a father. Her mother took care of her further education. Having gone through hard times, after graduating from school, she went to Moscow, to her dream - to become a doctor. Valentina Panteleevna received the coveted diploma of the 2nd Moscow State Medical Institute in 1953, becoming one of the best graduates and continued her studies in clinical residency. Upon graduation, Valentina Panteleevna defended her Ph.D. thesis on the topic “The importance of the electrocardiological research method for diagnosing congenital heart defects in children,” after which she moved to the city of Voronezh. From 1957 to 1959, Valentina Panteleevna worked as an assistant at the Department of Hospital Pediatrics of the Voronezh State Medical Institute named after N.N. Burdenko, and then headed this department. She created on the basis of the department the so-called scientific and methodological center for the study of various problems of pediatric nephrology. In 1970, a children's nephrology department was opened in the regional children's hospital in the city of Voronezh. This was facilitated by the formation of a specialized pediatric service. In 1975, Valentina Panteleevna defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic "The course and outcome of glomerulonephritis in children" at the Research Institute of Pediatrics of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, after which nephrology became one of her main areas of interest.But it cannot be said that Valentina Panteleevna was not interested in other issues of pediatrics. On the contrary, she loved her job, always had a great desire to help not only little patients, but also their parents. After all, when a child is healthy, parents are happy! The doctor devoted a lot of energy to advisory work. Participated in medical consultations with the examination of severe, diagnostically unclear patients. She received patients not only in Voronezh, but also in such cities as Lipetsk and Belgorod. All the time that Valentina Panteleevna headed the Department of Hospital Pediatrics, she successfully developed nephrology, being primarily engaged in self-education. She willingly shared her experience and knowledge with colleagues, developed a scientific direction for the diagnosis and treatment of children with kidney pathology, took part in the creation of a nephrology center based on the Voronezh Regional Children's Clinical Hospital No. 1. And the results of her scientific research were published not only in Russia, but also in foreign publications. Thanks to the work of Valentina Panteleevna, it was possible to reduce the number of sick children with urinary tract infections in Voronezh and the region. Valentina Panteleevna actively organized and participated in various Russian and international conferences, congresses on pediatrics and nephrology. The professor was a member of the Board of the Russian Society of Pediatric Nephrologists, a member of the European Association of Pediatric Nephrologists, a member of the International Association of Pediatric Nephrologists, the author of over 300 scientific papers, co-author of monographs and teaching aids on kidney diseases in children. She was awarded the high title of Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation. Valentina Panteleevna was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the medal "For Valiant Labor", certificates of the Ministry of Health of the USSR, the Ministry of Health of Russia, the Regional and City Administration of Voronezh, the Women's Union of Russia, the VO "VODKB No. 1", VSMA named after. N.N. Burdenko. Doctor Sitnikova V.P. was a laureate of the "Woman" award in the "Public Recognition" nomination. She was active in the women's council of the city of Voronezh, being its member of the board.In 2002, Valentina Panteleevna left the position of head of the department of hospital pediatrics, but continued to work as a professor of the department, still doing her favorite thing. During the reign of the department, she brought up a wonderful galaxy of doctors who continued her work.
Her tireless work was duly appreciated by awarding her in 2003 the title of “Honorary Professor of the Voronezh State Medical University. N.N. Burdenko.
Sitnikova Valentina Panteleevna passed away on March 27, 2016. The nephrology department of the Voronezh Regional Children's Clinical Hospital No. 1 is officially named after her. Despite the high ranks, honorary positions Valentina Panteleevna remained in the hearts of people and was remembered as a disinterested, wise, sympathetic person. The professor's students are worthy successors to her work: they treat children, develop nephrology, not forgetting about their main teachers.
